Welcome to Alpha 0.3!
Project Isolation Alpha » Devlog
Hi!
Welcome to Alpha 0.3 for Project Isolation :) This is by far the largest update to the game ever (something reflected in the file size), and brings a large list of improvements:
- A brand new weapon, the AR15, visualised in stunning detail in the game's new art style
- The AR15 is a semi-auto rifle that comes with a 1x red dot scope, and can be acquired for $3000 in the weapon buying area.
- The sten receives a 'new' attachment in the form of the Magazine Grip
- This Magazine Grip works in tandem with the new attachment compatibility system, which can make sure that incompatible attachments can never be seen appearing together. In the case of the magazine grip, if the weapon spawns with a drum magazine, the player will grip it by that.
- Weapons received a new outline shader to aid in the new art style :)
- Weapon recoil and camera shake has been reduced across the board, and further balancing has been applied to certain weapons.
- The demo map receives a new challenge: Clean House
- In clean house, you race against the clock to knock out all the dummies in the house as quickly as possible
- Prizes up to $1000 are awarded depending on your time
- It is now impossible to run out of ammo in the demo map, owing to a new area with infinite ammo pickups.
- A brand new equip system, with all-new animations and sound effects. Weapon swapping no longer feels like crap :p
- Footstep sounds make their debut
- A brand new material system for all the scopes in the game, as well as a unique approach to scopes visible for now only on the AR15
- Praise be, FOV adjustment! This also features panini projection on the hands and weapons to reduce distortion
- A gentle procedural weapon sway is now featured on all weapons
- Render-target based scopes, such as those found on the sten, received a major performance rework and optimisation pass. The framerate should no longer drop by 60-70% when using the sten.
- Weapon repair kits have been added (though, not visible in the demo level)
- An ammunition counter has been added
- A brand new UI for world interactions
- A new tool tip system that reacts dynamically to the player's key maps
- These key maps, as well as audio, graphics and gameplay settings, can now be adjusted in the brand new, fully-featured settings menu
- A new pause menu compliments the settings menu nicely
- Various other improvements and a number of bug fixes
These changes bring the core of project isolation to completion, barring any major design changes. Future updates will focus on gameplay pillars (mainly combat with the introduction of enemy AI) and slowly introducing elements of the world, as well as bringing various older elements up to the new graphics style.
The devlog for this update will go live in the coming days. Thanks so much for your time, much love to you all :)
